First, we have discovered the key to creating a variety of different flavours and combinations in your ‘Quarantini’s’ is in mastering the ‘Simple Syrup’ and combining different flavors with your syrup. Here is a basic recipe and some suggestions of flavors you might like to infuse… the possibilities are endless!
Simple syrup - using as a key ingredient in many drinks - it can be adapted for a myriad of cocktail combinations.
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
In a small saucepan, bring sugar and water to a boil; simmer until the sugar is dissolved, 3 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool completely.
Additional - flavoured or spiced syrup
Cinamon, Lemon-Thyme, Rosemary, Vanilla, Rose, Lavender etc.
Bitter Gin Quarantini
5 parts Gin
1 part dry vermouth
2 dashes orange bitters (substitute- equal parts grapefruit, orange and lime juice and white distilled vinegar.)
Build all ingredients in a shaker tin with ice and shake. Strain into a coupe and garnish with a lemon twist.
44 mL Gin
44 mL fresh grapefruit juice
7 mL simple syrup
2 rosemary sprigs
Saving 1 sprig of rosemary for garnish, combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake until well chilled and double strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary.
Orange Jam Sour
59 mL Monkey Shoulder Scotch
22 mL lemon juice
2 tsp jam or marmalade
1 dash orange bitters
Combine ingredients in a shaker tin with ice, shake and double-strain over fresh ice. Garnish with an orange twist.
59 mL bourbon or rye whiskey
2 dashes bitters
1 sugar cube or 1 tsp sugar
Put sugar in glass. Cover it with dashes of bitters. Add whiskey and stir until sugar dissolves. Add ice, stir again, and serve with an orange twist.
44 mL Tequila
29 mL Coco Lopez cream of coconut
.5 lime juice
Combine all ingredients and shake over ice. Serve with a salted or spiced Rim.
